The municipality of Pristina, Kosovo plans to allocate 50 euros per month to citizens who adopt stray dogs. According to the Director for Security and Emergency, Lulzim Fushtica, citizens can take up to 5 dogs. “We will subsidize citizens who are interested in adopting dogs. A person who takes a dog will be subsidized with 50 euros per month. Citizens can take up to 5 dogs”, declared the Director.

Meanwhile, the Councilor for Security Issues in the municipality, Bajram Gecaj, announced that the municipality has already started the action to send stray dogs in shelters. “On Monday evening, as a continuation of the many actions for the treatment of stray dogs, Prishtina municipality, by decision of the mayor, Përparim Rama, has started the action to remove these animals from the street and send them to shelters licensed by the Agency of Veterinary and Food, where they will be treated properly and then prepared for adoption” – he wrote.

According to director Fushtica, the goal is to remove the dogs from the street and place them in shelters. “This activity will continue for days in continuation. The goal is to get the dogs off the street and into a shelter licensed by AVF, where they will be treated humanely, and the municipality will continue to subsidize this shelter for the dogs it will keep, where it will we also prepare them for adoption”, stated Fushtica.

The municipality is preparing the regulation for the treatment of stray dogs, which also includes how such a dog can be adopted, which will be treated for free at any time by the capital’s veterinarian in the center for their treatment, which is located in Hajvali, Prishtina and will be opened soon.

Bajram Gecaj emphasized that 1.3 million euros have been allocated so far for the treatment of stray dogs. The municipality of Pristina has already finalized the construction of the shelter in Hajvali while a similar one is expected to be built in the village of Slivovë. Also, the municipality has 18 feeding points in different areas of the city.
